Barkley Hendricks

Last weekend, I spent my time with my art class viewing art in the Houston area. By far, one of the best exhibits was "Birth of the Cool" by Barkley Hendricks at the Contemporary Arts Museum. Unfortunately, it's hard to discern the details in these photographs.

Lawdy Mama, 1969

Blood (Donald Formey), 1975

Mayreh (Mary Sheehan), 1973

Vendetta, 1977

Fela: Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, 2002
My favorite piece in the show - meant to be viewed both in standard lighting and under a black light as an installation piece. Complete with the 27 shoes, representing his 27 wives, the piece was stunning.
